More Than A Bed

Women’s Shelters Canada recently released More Than a Bed, National Profile of VAW Shelters and Transition Houses.  Pulling responses from 401 shelters and second stage shelters from across Canada including rural, remote, Northern, and Indigenous shelters this report gives an accurate picture of the state of violence against women shelters in Canada.

The key findings from Canada closely mirror the situation in Manitoba,  no increased in funding, not even cost of living increase yet shelters are expected to continue providing full service same as they did during the early 2000’s.  It’s not reasonable and it’s not expected of other primary services, most of who are considered essential service.
