Transforming Together: A Project to Re-envision Family Violence Services in Manitoba

It’s official, MAWS has been awarded a grant from the Department for Women and Gender Equality.  We are excited to get started on this worthwhile and timely project that will extend over the next 4 years.  One objective will build on an existing project, Challenge for Change that has been underway for the last several years headed up by Willow Place a shelter in Winnipeg.

Transforming Together, MAWS will also look at and develop materials to build strong governance of family violence shelters and agencies boards and develop the organizational capacity of MAWS tp assume a broader role of support.

“Key to advancing equality between women and men in the economic, social and democratic life in Canada is challenging and changing the trajectory of violence against women.  The policies, programs and services related to family violence prevention and intervention are poised for an important and necessary paradigm shift that re-thinks and re-aligns what services are necessary, how and where they are delivered and who delivers them.”

“The overarching goal of this project is to support this paradigm shift and build the capacity of the Family Violence shelter system in Manitoba to deliver effective intervention and prevention programs that support healing, safety and an end to violence.”
